I think this food is also available from CI? My pup has been on the one from CI and he is always excited for his food. He has a chicken allergy and this was the only large breed puppy food I could source easily that didn't have chicken in.

What an absolutely disgusting thing to say. Let's hope you never end up in the position where you are struggling to afford rent/mortgage and feed yourself, let alone your dog. Perhaps they should just give their beloved pet up instead. Shame on you more like.

I am a dentist and I have fed my two Spanish Water Dogs Years for 18 months now. Even though not specialised in dogs I think I know a bit about mouth diseases in general so I decided to comment.

What did your vet say? How quickly after changing the diet did the problem start? What dental treats are you using?

The teeth cleaning lady’s advice sounds a bit too hasty - these are chronic illnesses and cause is usually much more complicated. It is impossible to see the cause in just one visit. It needs longer time and many visits before you can make such a conclusion. If your dental care is that great it is likely that the problem has been there for potentially several months if not years before you started feeding Years. Dogs - just like humans - have not only unique bacteria but also mineral content in their saliva and this may make them more prone to calculus (tartar) build up. Also as they age they are more prone to have gum problems - despite what they eat. I - for example - don’t brush my dogs’ teeth and they are in perfect condition. They have daily bull’s pizzles and occasional rabbit ears / carrots / cauliflower stems, seaweed meal mixed in their food etc. that keep their teeth clean and healthy. This doesn’t mean that you should stop brushing your dog’s teeth - two dogs is too small a sample to make any conclusions which is also true with your and your friend’s dog. Two similar problems may be just a co-incidence. The sample is just too small to make any general conclusions.

The soft plaque to start calcifying you need several days of not proper clean. It doesn’t happen overnight. Could it be possible that there are areas that you can’t reach? It doesn’t sound possible that the food (change from one fresh wet to another) would make such a difference alone. And for human teeth quinoa has many health benefits.

I would keep in mind that Jet may have had an underlying issue already when you changed their feed and changing it doesn’t necessarily solve the problem. It may come back in a couple of months/years whatever you feed. I myself have chosen to feed fresh cooked even though it may not be as good for the plaque build up as kibble. Kibble is ultra processed food and I don’t want to eat any myself so I rather don’t feed it to my dogs. Years has also solved their continuous digestive problems that they both had with kibble. I wouldn’t change it if they had dental problems but tried to solve the dental issues separately.

Liver is very nutritious but it should be pointed that the levels of vitamin A are very high and that liver should be fed in moderation. Of course, in manufactured food there is more control.

I came upon this discussion and am horrified by the very significant number of people who have experienced illness in their pets which they put down to feeding Butternut Box. I have to say that I've always been satisfied with this food which my dog has enjoyed for 2 years now without any problems. However I have had my concerns about pouches being delivered after a lengthy journey which has rfesulted in the pouched

Hi, I checked on the years website and it clearly says that the fibre contain is 0.42%. Isn’t that significantly low? Whereas on this website it mentions around 1.3%. I have been using years since early 2024. This year, I have noticed significant issue with anal gland. I was at vets every few months to clear it. Vet did check the nutrition content and mentioned that the fibre contain is significantly lower than what it should be. Could you please clarify on this?

Just love this food and company. Such great quality food and so helpful and easy to contact for advice and orders. Have In subscription so never run out and delivered free to the door. Shelties absolutely love all W&D and their coats are amazing. No runny tummies or upsets, just happy dogs who lick the bowls clean. Fantastic quality and its so nice to be able to phone the company and speak to a human being to get immediate advice and answers!
